In the name of Allah, The Merciful, The Beneficent.
Alhamdulillah… infinite praise and thanks are due to the Almighty Allah who descended the Qur’an to be guidance and cure to the diseases in our hearts. Complete peace and salutations are upon the first teacher who best mastered the Qur’an, Sayyidunā Muhammad, his household, his companion, and all those who follow his guided path.
The Most Frequently Read Surah in the Qur’an
I want to claim, that 80 to 85% of Muslims who pray individually, whether at home or at the mosques (when they miss congregations) read the Sūrahs that fall between Sūrah al-Duha and Sūrah al-Nās. Of course, after reading Sūrah al-Fātiḥah. And this is applicable when the prayer is read aloud, and more so when it’s read silently.
Also, 60 to 70% of Imams read from the Sūrahs that fall between Sūrah al-Ḍuḥā and Sūrah al-Nās in their Maghrib prayers. Again, after reading Sūrah al-Fātiḥah.
These statistics are not proven by or supported with a ‘formal’ study. But to make sense of it, one can stop and reflect, and then ask himself what are the Sūrahs he most frequently reads, especially when he prays alone. As you do, also try to remember what your local Imām mostly reads during Maghrib prayers.
What Does that Mean?
Here, I must indicate, that the habit of reading these Sūrahs includes those who know well how to read the Qur’an, as well as those who are unsure of how they read them, other than the fact that they have memorized them passively, by virtue of hearing them on a frequent basis.
And “what’s wrong with that?” you may ask. The answer is: there’s nothing wrong with reading the same Sūrah or Sūrahs over and over again in your prayers. It’s only problematic when we are unsure of what we read. It’s even more worthy of a concern if we can’t, on our own identify what we read in the Qur’an.
When this is the case, it gives the impression that we don’t read the Qur’an any other times outside prayers. For the Muslims, this should be a matter of great concern. Indeed!
What’s the Possible Solution?
Fright no more. TVQ.Academy is here to help you. TVQ.Academy is here to guide you to build the confidence you need and learn to be sure and confident of what you’re read, at least in your prayers. This help comes in the form a series we call JAPTS. What’s JAPTS?
What’s JAPTS?
JAPTS stands for Juz’ ‘Amma Practical Tajwīd Series.
At the start of 2020, TVQ.Academy, which is the Qur’an wing of your very own GSalam.Net started a series that aims to teach the Sūrahs of Juz’ ‘Amma (the last 30th part of the Qur’an). By the will of Allah, this project has progressed to successfully cover the most frequently read Sūrahs in the Qur’an. These are the Sūrahs that fall between Sūrah al-Ḍuḥā and Sūrah al-Nās, plus Sūrah al-Fātiḥah.
Half-way in the year (2020), as the excitement accumulated in the episodes of JAPTS, we realized the need to come out with some dedicated episodes to help those who may find it difficult to identify the Arabic Alphabet, and for that matter, they’re unable to read the Qur’an on their own.
To fulfill that, we’ve produced 6 dedicated episodes, in simple English, for that purpose. The good news is, these dedicated episodes for the Arabic Alphabet come with learning materials, that you can download on your smart device(s) or print out to practice, for yourself, or to guide your child or loved one.
Where and How Can I Start?
Following are links to JAPTS on both YouTube and Facebook, in addition to a link to the relevant materials…
- Click here for the YouTube playlist
- Click here for the playlist on Facebook
- Click here to download the learning materials
Feel free to help yourself. Also, feel free to share JAPTS with your family members, friends, and loved ones.
If you’re seeing JAPTS for the first, and are starting to follow, I’ll suggest that you start with the very first video and follow the sequence up to the latest. If you’re confident of your ability in recognition and articulation of the Arabic Alphabet, then you can skip the episodes that are dedicated for that purpose. Always remember, practice is the secret!
Insha Allah, by the time you reach to Sūrah al-Ḍuḥā, we’ll have more videos awaiting you, to ensure your journey with the Qur’an continues. Until then, have a good time with the Qur’an.
Allah knows best.
Allahu Hafiz 🙂
